How Typti is played.

TYPTI is a modern racket sport played on a pickleball-sized court, distinguished by heavy topspin, high-bouncing rallies, and an unconventional “Stakes” scoring method. Uniquely among racket sports, it permits legal saves using the body or the edge of the racquet frame.

Every sanctioned court measures 44 feet long and 20 feet wide - pickleball-sized - with the net standing 36 inches at the sides and dipping to 34 inches at the centre. The service line sits 2.13 meters (84 inches / 7 feet) away from the net, and there is no kitchen.

§3 · The court

Court (Dimensions and Equipment)

§1
  • Court Size: 44 feet long and 20 feet wide for singles and doubles.
  • Net Height: 34 inches at the center, 36 inches at the sidelines.
  • Racquets: strung Typti India racquets (textured or hexagonal strings are prohibited).
  • Balls: high-density foam balls approved by Typti India.

Play On Any Pickleball Court (44' × 20')

§2
  • Serve underhand only.
  • Server can drop or bounce the ball before serving.
  • Serve crosscourt anywhere in bounds.
  • Entire crosscourt half is valid (excluding kitchen).

Serving Rules

§3
  • Only one serve attempt is allowed per point.
  • Serves must be made underhand into the diagonal service box.
  • Serves that land in the kitchen are considered out (touching the line is in).
  • No lets: the serve is live even if it touches the net.
  • Both sides must let the ball bounce once before either side may volley. The returner must allow the serve to bounce before hitting it, and the server must also allow the return to bounce before hitting it.

Scoring System

§4
  • Games are played to 11 points (win by 1).
  • Rally scoring: a point is scored on every serve, regardless of who served.
  • The game-winning point must be won on a serve. A team can only score the final point (the one that reaches 11 and wins the game) while they are serving. If a team is at game point (10) and wins a rally while receiving, the point is not awarded and the score holds — that team must be serving and win the rally to claim the winning point.
  • Players alternate serving 2 points each, once from the right side and then once from the left side.
  • Typti India Quickplay matches consist of a single game to 11, while tournament play is best of 3, 5, or 7 games.

Gameplay Regulations

§5
  • Two-bounce rule: both the server and receiver must let the ball bounce once before either side may volley. The serve must bounce before the receiver returns it, and that return must also bounce before the serving side hits it.
  • Once both bounces have occurred, there is no kitchen rule — players may volley from anywhere on the court.
  • If a player releases their racquet to make a shot, it counts if the racquet doesn’t land on the opponent’s side.
  • If the ball comes into contact with any part of a player’s body during a live point, that player loses the point.
  • Players switch sides after every game, and during the final game of a match, they switch sides every 6 points.

Doubles Specific Rules

§6
  • One player from each team must remain inside the court boundaries until the ball bounces in court.

It’s a fault when…

§11

Any of the following ends the rally immediately and awards the point to the opposing side.

  • 01The ball is hit out of bounds.
  • 02The ball doesn’t clear the net.
  • 03The ball bounces twice before being hit.
  • 04A serve lands outside the correct service box.
  • 05A player touches the net or enters the opponent’s court during play.
  • 06A player reaches over the net to hit the ball before it comes to their side.
  • 07Foot fault: server steps on or over the baseline before serving the ball.
  • 08Double hit: the ball is hit twice by the same player in one stroke.
  • 09Carry: the ball is held on the racquet strings during a stroke.
